Leith

Leith is a district of Edinburgh in the county of Edinburgh, Scotland and is situated by the mouth of the Water of Leith, therefore regarded as the port of Edinburgh, sitting on the south shore of the Firth of Forth.

Leith was officially titled as Edinburgh's port in 1329 as Robert I transfered control to the magistrates and citizens of Edinburgh, since then remaining a busy port, controlling 1.5 million tonnes of cargo each year.

Leith is home to the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Scottish Executive, the latter bringing development to the region, encouraging companies, architects and designers to open offices.

The Water of Leith Walkway is a public footpath and cycleway running alongside fo the Water of Leith river. The idea of the path sprung in 1949 but wasn't constructed until the early 1970s. It provides access to the Gallery of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery.
