Renfew is a town located six miles to the west of Glasgow, in the central Lowlands of Scotland. It is known as the 'Cradle of the Royal Stewarts" in reference to its early link with the Royal house of Scotland and Great Britain.
The town became a royal burgh in 1397. The current baron of Renfrew is His Royal Highness, The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay (known outside Scotland as The Prince of Wales)
Although the town gives its name to the council area of Renfrewshire and the larger county of the same name, the administrative functions of both have for some time, been operated from neighbouring Paisley.
The M8 motorway intersects two junctions at Arkelston and Braehead, with Paisley lying on the opposite side.
Renfrew has excellent bus services. McGills operate the 21, 23, X23, 101 and 26. With these, passengers can get to Braehead, Erskine, Govan, Paisley and Glasgow City Centre. The town once had a train station, but this was closed to passengers in 1967.
In the past, Renfrew was famous for its shipbuilding. Sadly the shipyard was closed in the early 1960's.
